2 July, 2026 — HELSINKI — Distance Technologies™ – the leading developer of glasses-free Augmented Reality enhanced with visual intelligence for defense – today introduced Acuity™. Acuity is a unique visual intelligence platform designed to unify perception, understanding and presentation across diverse military systems.

Acuity reflects Distance's belief that the future of military visual intelligence depends on the tight integration of hardware, software and user experience. Powered by Acuity OS™, the platform creates a common software foundation for connecting sensors, software and operators.

Acuity was demonstrated at Eurosatory 2026 through a series of partner demonstrations with worldwide defense leaders including Eviden, Galvion, General Dynamics, Sarco Electronics and Supacat.

Designed for operators across land, maritime and air domains as well as remote command-and-control environments, Acuity is powered by Acuity OS™ – a new operating system developed by Distance. Acuity acts as the layer between what sensors observe, what battle-management systems report and what tactical and strategic operators act upon.

Rather than replacing existing systems, Acuity is designed to connect them. Modern military operators do not lack data – they lack alignment and Acuity was developed to close that very specific gap. The platform acts as a bridge between sensors, battle-management systems, machine intelligence and computational optics. Acuity fuses information from multiple sources into a common visual framework for instantly actionable intelligence.

Battlefield sensors usually operate independently – and as a result, valuable tactical information remains distributed across many disconnected systems, resulting in negative operational impact. Critical information is often separated from the physical environment where decisions must be made accurately and in real-time.

The result is that operators are left trying to integrate sensor-based mission data themselves, while trying to make decisions across increasingly complex battle scenarios. As Distance expands its computational-optics portfolio across vehicle, soldier and future optical platforms, Acuity provides a common visual intelligence foundation designed to align perception, understanding and presentation across the battlespace.

Integration with military-approved machine learning and artificial intelligence systems enables real-time understanding of data across multiple spectra, including infrared and thermal imagery. The platform incorporates deep sensor integration, temporal alignment, geometric fusion and a live common operating picture for operational tracks. Built around open standards and an OpenXR runtime for augmented reality applications, Acuity enables information from multiple sources to be presented as a coherent three-dimensional layer aligned with the real world.

"Eurosatory has demonstrated just how well Distance's technology integrates into the Jackal platform. The Field Operator HUD and Acuity OS deliver a genuine step change in situational awareness for the driver and crew safety — there is simply nothing better available on the market today," said Kev Carpenter, Head of Business Development, Supacat.

"Acuity OS is Europe's sovereign tactical operating system — built for every soldier and vehicle on the battlefield. Open and extensible, it bridges strategic command and the individual operator, pulling BMS data and sensor feeds into a single seamless visual layer. We are bringing this into deployments in 2026, together with our existing and new partners alike." said Urho Konttori, CEO and Co-Founder of Distance Technologies.

About Distance Technologies

Distance Technologies Ltd (Helsinki) is Europe’s counterpart to the new wave of defense and dual-use technology platforms focused on delivering superhuman perception. We build the world’s most advanced computational optics, AI-driven lightfield systems and visual intelligence for defense, automotive, and aerospace use cases.

Our technology turns periscopes, windshields, helmet mounts, or even handheld devices into a transparent mixed-reality sensor that fuses hyperspectral/multispectral data, thermal imagery, and 3D lightfields into a single infinite-depth HUD – merging mission-critical data seamlessly with the real world. The result: enhanced safety, faster situational awareness, decisive action, greater survivability and superior maneuverability in any environment. Designed to meet the highest standards of European sovereignty and operational safety, Distance delivers the perception layer that goes the distance — on the battlefield and in everyday usage alike.
